I'm having problems with my ram the symptoms include PC restarting itself at random times, booting up takes forever. And some programs stop working. There is a few more things that happen. Basically I'm sure its my ram as i don't have any viruses.

Now i'm looking to buy either

>GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 £58.74 inc VAT
Or this one
>1Gb G.Skill ZX Series DDR PC3200 2-3-3-6 Dual Channel £ 63.59 Inc. Vat

Which one is the better performer out of the packet?

Thank you in advance :)

I haven't done that one as Ive no cds, But i did do another one that noticed errors just when the test was about to begin. I do have a lot of problems with downloading files as well as they all get corrupt.

I've given you the link for a download, can you download to another PC and copy it onto a CD/floppy?

I'm not saying your ram is okay, it's just that many other things could do the same.

If you have more than one module in your PC, remove all but one. Then go through each of the modules in turn to see which are good, and which are bad.

I have one 512MB module in the PC. Is their not a way of doing the ram test without making a boot up CD?

Also i haven't got a floppy drive.

Slow-starts aren't usually RAM related (not enough maybe, not bad RAM) Are you running overclocked?

It starts up then some programs take ages to start up or i get error messages and they fail to start. Last night i booted up and the PC had an error messages saying the protocol had been initiated or something and the PC was shutting down. I also get that doctor Watson error debugger thing.

Sometimes i get told to do a check disk and it finds corrupt windows files and replaces them. Can you tell me how to find the one that runs in windows?

And i haven't ever even attempted to overclock my PC.

Do make sure you read the instructions as you can get false results if you don't follow all the requirements. The DOS based ones that start off a boot floppy are a lot more straightforward, but this works too.

That's the one that i have tried and it says preparing the test and i get ram errors during that time and after. It says good ram shouldn't have any errors at all but mine had errors before the test got under way.

How can it have errors before the test got underway? I think you'd be better off re-installing Windows as it sounds like you've either got something extremely nasty running in the background (not all malware is a virus) or something is corrupt.

Its been formatted a few times in the hope of fixing the problem, But the problems start straight away. I had started the test and almost straight away it was showing errors.

I will try to post a screenshot showing the errors at 0.01 percent.

It's fine. What's the rest of your system like? I doubt the RAM will hold you back if your CPU is not overclocked.

I'm running Windows XP Home, 160GB H.D, AMD Athlon64 3000+, ATI Radeon X800Gto2.

That ram hasn't got a life time warranty has it? As the others do. I don't want to get 14Mths down the line and have to spend that kind of money again, Unless i have a new PC.

You're a hard man to keep happy ;)

OK - You want the fastest RAM available won't break the bank and has a lifetime warranty?

What about 2 sticks of Crucial DIMM 512MB PC3200 Cas2 Ballistix? They are faster out of the box than either of the kits you've mentioned, rated at 2-2-2-6 and the rumour has it they run to PC4000 speeds if you have the know-how.

Unfortunately OcUK don't stock it, but Crucial direct RMA will turn those sticks around within 24 hours for the rest of your life. If you google or Froogle on the manufacturer part number (BL2KIT6464Z402) you should be able to find them for about £51 for 2 sticks delivered.

Now that's faster RAM, with a better warranty turnaround, and cheaper. Are you smiling?

I was actually looking at those a few days ago. And now i'm going to get them ones :)

Thanks for all of your help, you have been really helpful ;)

No worries. That really is cracking RAM, and at that price, it's very good value. I've actually bought some myself for a friend who's running 256Mb and XP Pro! It's a Pentium 4 3GHz, but she thinks it's a bit slow and she ought to get a faster CPU :D

And let us know if that doesn't fix your problem.
