if you had 1k to buy a car that needed to do around 40 miles a day as a mixture of a roads and motorway what would you choose.

dont need fast, dont need pretty just need cheap to run, insure and something thats likely to be reliable.

cool cheers chaps, yeah im not worried about fast. literally just used for work and back.

seems like japanese is the way to go though.

Boring Jap stuff is always a good shout. Corolla, Civic, Yaris etc... 15K a year is a bit much for most people to want to do in a tiny car like a Yaris though, especially with motorway time. Accord, Avensis?

I don't mind small to be honest. I once had an extended test drive in a seat Mii and thought it was superb. Considering how cheap they are new I was gutted none are even remotely close to my budget

think i might be able to up my budget to 2k which should hopefully help getting something a little more reliable.

is there any manufactures that you would specifically avoid? ie. i see a lot of 207's, fiesta;s, 107's, aygo's etc.

That's quite an increase!
Seems there's a lot of them around that price so don't get too bogged down in getting that one specifically if anything seems amiss!
I just didn't want to be walking into a potential shed situation with something so cheap.
What kinda amiss things would it be that I'd need to look for?

It seems a good price in comparison to others in that age range. They seem to be 3.5-4k for 2010 plates.

This pug also caught my eye.

I dont think you know what you want. Youve more than tripled your budget, and now people are recommending cars at all different prices?

Id rather do miles in a 1K passat/mondeo than a 3.5K Fiesta/jazz, just saying.
You are right I have no idea. I have previously had a few fiestas which is why I thought about them
