Hi guys thinking about an upgrade from superb Tosh 36" picture frame CRT, not because the tosh is no good, but i just want to able to revel in the HD goodness of my xbox and hdtv files i have.

Basically im wondering what a grand will buy that is hd ready and is bigger than the tosh, so im looking at 40 or 42" tvs, i watch mainly movies and stuff i have gotten off the net, so its decent quality,my TV feed is cable digital which is not so good qual, so the tv will have to work well with that.

Can you guys reccomend anything?

£1000 will buy you a very good 32" HDTV, a very average 36" HDTV, or pretty poor 40" LCD.

You need around £1500 to get a decent 36"+ LCD. The difference in the quality will be most pronounced with SD sources. Your cable TV will look worse on the LCD, no question, but if you spend a reasonable amount then it'll look pretty good, and HD sources will look phenomenal :D

You need to up the budget if you want a 42"

exactly. This is the one i'm planning on buying, am just waiting to complete on the flat i bought and move in, hopefully the price will drop even more by Sept!

This one also has TWO hdmi inputs. Who says a grand won't buy a decent TV!

I have actually had a projector, but it really wasnt for me, i couldnt get the room dark enough so i lost a lot of contrast and the picture wasnt as good as it should be.

Also have been the DLP route, but i seemto suffer from rainbows, so the sagem stuff is out and im not overly impressed with the sony looked great on HDTV source but not so hot on SD.

But it looks like i need to hang on for a bit longer, as i really do want a 42" and i want a good un as i really think my tosh is brilliant in terms of clarity and contrast and i dont want a downgrade in pic quality for the sake of HD goodness

£1000 is a nice budget for a (non HD) projector... 100" goodness...

Agreed... although if you went for an LCD rather than DLP projector there are several that have an HD-ready 1280x720 resolution for around a grand.

Panasonic's PT-AE900 is one, I think Hitachi, Sanyo and Epson also do some good ones. Then you can start thinking about your screen size in metres, not inches ;)
