Hi all,

A friend has £1k to spend on a gaming PC for her son.. He had done a bit of research and wanted a X3D CPU and a 5090 for 500fps gaming.... he 12 and thinks he's the next big thing / streamer /pro gamer - like most kids, a stern reality check due....

I think anything with 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD and wifi so anything you guys can suggest would be really helpfull. I found a 14700f / 5060 pc for 1k in the coming back friday sales but i assume i would be able to build a better price/performance ? been out the loop for a while.

Thanks in advance.

Do you want to be the go-to for any pc related issues?
If you don't, then just get a pre built pc.
The kid will not take care of the pc (in my experience) so a lot of support will be on the cards if you DIY the pc.

That 12 year old kid best get a job then.

Parents should give him a Geforce MX400

You are basically looking at one of the two cheapest prebuilts on OCUK. I wouldn’t put much more effort in than that for reasons stated above.

Only other option is looking second hand, but at least new from OCUK they’ll get support.

I would prob just give them the OCUK phone number and get them to call up and get advice.

I wouldn't get a 13th-14th gen CPU anymore (due to potential for degradation issues), go Core Ultra if getting Intel.

Would also be great to have a 16GB card. 5060 isn't terrible, but really the time to move away from 8GB cards.

245K or 245KF (no graphics) from elsewhere. Deal seems to run out for now, but hopefully back before Cyber Monday.

RAM prices are rising fast, but if possible get 32GB, otherwise it'll be the first thing they try to replace and who knows what prices will be then.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £856.88 (includes delivery: £11.98)

When I see post's like this, I am reminded of single moms wanting advice on how to keep their kid busy. I will apologize if this sounds appalling, but I have seen some appalling things revolving around single mothers with "gaming" kids whom they throw money at.

If this kid thinks he is the next big name, and thinks he "needs" specific hardware, it would suggest he currently has a PC, plays PvP online competitively and has tried to stream content, and that he doesn't leave the room much and often gets what he wants.

But I see no mention of this kids current hardware, game achievements, and considering it's illegal to stream at 12 and most streaming platforms will shut him down, the post is full of holes.

As none of this is mentioned I would suggest to the OP list the friends kids current hardware, monitor resolution, streaming equipment and the games he is owning on and the experiences that led a 12yr old to believe he needs a 9800X3D with a 5090 because he has gamed so much leading to his 12th year he is going to be an online sensation.

Does the £1000 include a streaming deck, web cam, streaming software and is it on an approved platform that the mother has given permissions and signed for?

Is there anything in his current set up that will be re-used.

I doubt it's anything more complicated than him wanting to copy the setup of his favourite game streamer to be honest, I know plenty of kids like that. Most of the big names all run the exact same setups, and they all include a 9800X3D/9950X3D and a 5090.
