Ok,

Im so confused now. I been going back and forward. changing my mind more times than i care to count. I have for certain around a grand so far for my new rig. Possible can get more, but will depend largely on work. But for now ill say my budget is one thousand.

Can you guys help me find the best spec for that money. I dont mind going a little over on this either. I love my gaming but im also a designer so i need some beef for whatever i might get work-wise.

So far i have this un-completed setup, although went a little over because i couldnt resist the overclocked i7 :P

(for its kinda small)

But please help me out here guys.

Hello man,
if you'd like to save some money just get all those parts separately, like mobo, cpu, ramm, cooler, that would let you save 100quid, but you should overclock by your self , tbh that's quite easy, you will find all info you need in here. Than there is no need in paying so much for xfx GPU, all of them are the same with different stickers on them, just warranty differs. And if i were you i would get a cheaper case, but i don't think that you wana change that one.

Setup looks good, nearly like mine :) Will have lots of fun with it ;)

Ah ill have a look at getting them seperate. Only reason XFX appears is because all the other cards are said to be "pre-order" :S - I was afraid of doing the OC'ing myself, afraid i might brake something!

Looks good. Like linaaslt said you will save £100 ish if you OC it yourself. If you are are spending over £1k I would want a modular psu (corsair hx 650w for example) as it will have you case look a lot more tidy, plus helping with air flow. Love that case as well, wish I had a spare £200 :P.

Even if you are a heavy gamer and a designer, there is nothing the 4ghz i7 does that the 4ghz i5 cannot. Yes the i7 is faster but you are paying quite a bit more for the bundle.

So the overclocked i7 isnt exactly good value at the moment because nothing requires that sort of beef? I just want to future proof as much as possible.

Pretty much.
If you do lots of encoding or something like that then you will notice a difference, but for what you want it for the i7 would be only for bragging rights.

An i7 is better than the i5, but the extra cost does not warrant it unless you really are a hardcore computer enthusiast. The i5 you are looking at is still a quad core and is the same gen as the i7, just not the top cpu.

thankyou :) I will deffo take a look at an i5. If my budget needs a cutback this sounds like a wise plan. appreciate the input!

I would get:

A retail windows 7 64bit, as oem is one-time-use-only
A modular psu - I have the same psu as that except it is the 750w, very good but SO many cables
4ghz i5 bundle
A 5870

For your money the system will be much more balanced (refering to i5 and 5870 here).

Awesome, ill take a look right now. Cheers fella P.s. - Do i choose the cheapest 5870 like the Club 3D or so i go for a more well known make?

I agree the case is serious overkill but it's sooooooo good looking. I will assess if i can justify spending this much. However it has been over 6 years since ive had a new pc.. i feel like splashing out a little :D

you don't have to spend that much on a case for looks or performace or both ;)

its a great case but its just the price tag
