Had my first accident last night, a bump at around 2-3mph, won't go into details yet. Anyway jumped out of cars to see what the damage was, nothing to mine and a scuff on the spare wheel cover of the 4x4 in front. Exchanged details but didn't agree about going though insurance or private, the woman driving says she'll take it to the Suzuki dealer for a quote, i said i could get a quote as well as i work in a bodyshop. She jumps in car and leaves it at that.

As were exchanging details my mate got out and asked her if it would be ok to take some pics, to which she agreed. Now at this point i'm assuming she is going to get a quote and let me know, and depending on the price we either go private or through the insurance.

With this being my first one, i've read a few posts on here about similar sorts of things, and just looking for advice on how to proceed. My only problem with going through insurance is i don't have protected no claims, so would lose what i have (4 years), but thinking insurance would be best incase of future problems?

Yeah i thought settling private would be cheaper, depending what sort of price she comes back with from the dealers. Expecting it to be a bit from a main dealer, she's got my details so just got to wait see what she wants to do. Was just thinking about insurance because of some threads i've seen where people have come back with whiplash claims etc.
