Hi,

Im in the process of overclocking my system for the 1st time but I keep having to ease off because the CPU gets way hot! My system is

Abit FP-1n9 sli
Pentium D 915
Akasa AK-975CU CPU Cooler
Nvidia 8800gt 512
Corsair 2GB PC2-5300C5
450w PSU that came with my case.

I've managed to get it from 2.8ghz stock to 3.6ghz without raising the CPU core voltage but idle the CPU reading from the BIOS is 59C and it gets so hot when I run 3dmark06 that it set off the warning sound! Its set to go off at 70C in the BIOS.

I've added some intake fans to the case and got a bigger (120mm) exaust fan but I was after some advise as to whether I should be worried by the CPU temps.

Any advise would be most welcome.

Cheers in advance

It's a Pentium D, it will get very hot... Nevertheless, are you sure you've used the right amount of thermal paste and that the heatsink is making good contact with the CPU?

I did wonder about that. It said to only use a thin layer across the cpu but i might not have used enough. I'll have a look and see.

Does anyone have an idea quite how far the 915 will go?
