Hi,

I'm looking to build my first computer and have a budget of £800-900. I generated the following list of parts that meet my budget. I hope this system will be future proof (for minimum 3-4 years) and will be using it mainly for heavy photoshop use, my university work and some light gaming .I just want some advice from you guys to check that this would be a decent rig.

I am definitely wanting a 250gb SSD and 16gb RAM. Everything else can be changed. I don't need an OS, Mouse, Monitor or Keyboard.

Chosen Components:
Intel Core i7-4790K - £229
TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz - £129
Samsung 250GB 840 EVO Series SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive - £99
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black - £50
Gigabyte Z97-D3H Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - £90
WD 2TB 6Gbps SATA III Hard Disk Drive - Green - £57
Zalman Z3-Plus Midi-Tower - White - £40
LiteOn IHAS124-14 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM - £12
Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler - £20
Powercolor Radeon R9 280 TurboDUO 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card- £150

Total(w/o delivery)
£876

I'd rather it would be closer to £800 than the latter.

Btw, I am a beginner when it comes to building computers, any recommendations are welcome.

Cheers,
Vish

Thanks for your reply, is there much difference between the Samsung SSD and the Intel one?

Also is the power supply in my description suitable for the build?

I'm looking to connect this to a monitor and a tv through a hdmi port and will be used simultaneously. But say, I wanted multiple screens at one time, what are my options?

Cheers.

Yes that super flower will be fine for that spec.

The Intel is still a very decent and quick SSD at a good price.

Sorry, I've been away for a while. Just got back into the mix.

I have purchased the following;
Samsung 240GB SSD
2TB HDD
i7 4790k
Kingston 16GB RAM

I am having trouble deciding on the GPU.

I am torn between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked and the Radeon R9 280.

My reason for this is Nvidia support CUDA Technology for Photoshop. I will not be using this build for gaming that much, but would still like to play the latest games on relatively high settings.

I have done my research but I am still not as knowledgeable as you individuals when it comes to stuff like this :(

Any advice?

Cheers for the reply, I'll be honest, I'm not too keen on B grade items. Sorry just personal preference.

If it helps, I'm willing to stretch the budget of the gpu by about £50. I don't know how much difference that makes. But if it's significant enough, I'll consider it.

Again, thanks for your help.

£200 gets you a new R9 280X, if an application can use OpenGL then the card can accelerate that like CUDA does,

I'll check the R9 280X out. Btw, whats the policy on warranties for B grade items? I know overclockers is 90 days, but what about manufacturer warranty?

What ever is left is with the manufacturer.

But always best to ask in the customers services section.
