1st Line Support courses?

You dont need a course - just be polite and eager at the interviews, apply for lots of positions and you'll be fine.

Nothing wrong with 1st line support. I started off on a helpdesk as 1st line. Moved to another company after 6 months as 2nd line support and stayed there for about 2 and a half years. Left after they took the P salary wise. Went self employed for a year, earned a load of money same company offered me a perm position and increased my previous salary by about 40%.

1st line gave me the stepping stone I needed.

That's exactly what I'm hoping to achieve :) :)

Good luck.

It was relatively easy. Hard work (a given) and create good relationships with co-workers (boss in particular). Few more years under my belt and if everything goes to plan I should be in a very good position.

I went into first line at 19 with no previous experience in IT support apart from a little bit of friends and family help on the side. I just got a promotion after 6 months. You'll be fine. :)

And you'll be on more pay than me cos of the age difference too! (I'm 20 now)

Exactly this. There's bound to be too much competition in generic support environments.

I'm in 4th line support specialising in storage.

I agree. I am using 1st line as a stepping stone, though I'm not 100% sure on where I want to go!
