So yeah got my rig (see sig) last March and has been working pretty well. But before I start saving some money up for an update, I'd like to get a bit more out of it. The temps on my CPU never go above ~32°C even in todays's lovely weather. Was thinking about getting some case fans too as I've only got one.

But back to my original point, I'd like to try and OC it a bit. Nothing huge but something about 3.7ghz or near. Don't want to increase the vcore too much if at all. Cooler is a decent one (Coolermaster Hyper TX3) so that should be alright. I'm not really sure how to start. I've read a few guides but would prefer a more personal walkthrough and thought you lot would be perfect. I'm happy to experiment but don't want to rush.

Thanks all.

1) Go into your BIOS and take the FSB up in notches (I do it in blocks of 5)
2) Boot into windows,
3) Run LinX (default settings)and see if it passes the stress test
4) If it passes, goto 1 and repeat. If it fails goto 5,
5) Back into BIOS and take the vcore up a little bit (2 or 3 notches)
6) Goto 1 and repeat until you're happy with your OC :)

That's what I did to get up to 4.3 :)

Obviously keep an eye on your temperatures while stress testing. CoreTemp is a good program to do this, but I believe that AMD sockets can report the temperature higher than it is (can't remember why though...)

Take it steady - it is a long, drawn-out process... but it's worth it in the end :D

Okay thanks. I'll start doing that probably tomorrow as am very tired :o . Can you or anyone else recommend some 120mm fans and a 92mm fan? I'd like the 120's to be case fans and the 92 for push/pull.

Thanks.

Are you wanting quiet or big air movers?

Also, what kind of budget?

I would recommend http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-037-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4 and http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-001-XI&tool=3 for something cost effective.

Yeah they'd be fine for me in terms of price, thanks for those. I've upped the multi to 16.5x (3.3ghz) and it seems to be stable in LinX but the GFlops is about 20-21. Temps are all fine. I can't change the FSB in my BIOS, is that bad? Using a AMD OverDrive (only to test, I know using the BIOS is better) I can change the FSB but weird I can't in the BIOS. Will there be something that's blocking that? Also is it best to disable Cool and Quiet or should I just leave it as it is?
EDIT: Also are there any other things like RAM speed etc that I should worry about?

There should be a setting for FSB in your bios (may be called something else depending on your board). If you have a cheap board and either don't have this setting or can't change it then I'm afraid you're stuck.

turn cool n quiet off as it's just some crappy power saving option, and sometimes the mobo's have an option to 'enable' overclocking features to prevent you 'accidently' changing settings and ruining your pc, it'll be in the bios somewhere, have you looked everywhere? it might have some fancy name for it though,

I still can't seem to change the FSB, read through the whole manual etc but nothing. Changed the multi to 17.5x (3.5Ghz) and it's stable and temps are fine (stock vcore too).
