Hi all,

I've been shopping and reading the forums at ocUK for about a year now but have only just got round to registering. :)

I'm looking at buying a pre built rig, but i'm having trouble finding the exact spec I want. I'm lookin at the Overclocked P35 from the pc builder section
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/syscon_int.php?prodid=FS-067-OK

With a Q9450 overclocked to 3.6ghz, 280 GTX sli and 4gig ram. But theres only the option to select a 280 as the 2nd card

Alternately would i be able to get a 2nd GPU added to the Ultima Extreme OC GTX 280??

And Which case would everyone recommend, i like the look of the coolmaster RC 1000 but would like expert opinions! :p

Sorry for all the Questions,
Doz007

Cases are all down to personal taste. :)
I'd choose the Antec 1200, but there's a fair few who prefer the plainer looking Lian-Li's.

Regarding the graphics card though, I'd say your best best is to phone OcUK and asking them or sending them a webnote, linking to the machine (if there is one listed) and asking if they could change the GPU.

Something not right there on the website, a P35 board can't actually do SLI, only Crossfire. I'll highlight it to the shop guys to have a look and sort it out.

Cheers for the replies and advice guys, looks like there's no chance of sli on the P35 board then:p

I'll give them a ring or send a webnote today, to see about getting a 2nd card added to the 'Ultima OC GTX 280'. If they can't do it for whatever reason how difficult would it be to add the other 280 myself?

Also would it need to be exactly the same model as ocUK use in there pre built systems, or will the PoV card do the job:confused:

All the best,
Doz007

it is quite easy u just plug the card in other pci-e slot connect the cards with sli conectors and concect power to it.

then turn on pc and enable sli i guess in drivers

I have the Antec 1200 & I love it, With the fans being 120mm at a medium speed (The case has fan speed switches on it also)...you can't even hear them.

Thanks again for the advice lads :)

But its proving difficult to get the exact spec i want buying pre built so i'm considering a self build!:(

What do you guys reckon to the system i've specced up?

Any incompatable parts ect. Also how easy would it be for a complete novice to get i nice overclock with that rig? literally don't have a clue about overclocking :(

I would like this pc to last a few years, my main concerns are is there enough cooling?

How overclockable would this be, 4ghz stable? :D

ok first things first. drop that graphics card get yourself the ati 4870. sli will not be worth it on that screen size. also get a 24" screen with the money you save.

Cheers for taking the time to reply mate :)

I've thought a lot about the 4870 but i mainly play Crysis, and I think the 280 GTX outperforms it in this game in particular. Theres also Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2 and GTA IV comming soon so my thinking was the bigger the better, GTA on console has a very poor framerate, so want to run it smooth as silk when it arrives!

The monitor is only for the computer room, it will be replacing a 19" 1440 x 900.
a lot of my gaming will be done on the living room Kuro at 1920 x 1080.

Do you reckon I'd be able to get a good overclock out of this rig, i've never oc'd before so dont really have much idea :o

Don't waste your cash just because you got it.

Seriously, why would you pick spec like this just for gaming. total waste lol.

Why don't you pick up something like:

E8600
Tuniq Tower / TRUE + noctua
tube of MX-2
4870x2
Good ~90quid P45 chipset that will clock the E8600 to 4.4-5.0
4GB of good PC8500 memory like GeIL Black Dragon which is extremely cheap atm.
2x 320GB samsung/maxtor/seagate HDD in Raid0 + 500/750GB for storage.
Thermaltake ToughtPower 750 or any other 650-800 range PSU from corsair/tagan/seasonic/enermax, make sure its modular.

I've just saved you 500quid and i can bet another 500 that you will see no difference at all in performance, I even think my spec will do better in games.

To be honest mate, I don't think that would 'feel' like a proper upgrade from my current rig.

Anyway my mind has changed again:rolleyes: So I'm back to getting a pre built rig from ocUK, just hope RTB will be kind enough to ask about getting http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ti Functional Controller - Black/Silver/White
Included in the build!!

Now if only this cheque arrived before I change my mind again :p

When you get the cheque give us a call on 0870 443 0880 and ask for Phil, Sam or Grace mention this thread, my name and we'll have your spec checked to see if we can add in this gem!

Cheers

Will do that RTB. Many thanks for your quick reply mate, Awesome customer sevice ;)

One last question, do you tidy up the cables as standard and is there a warrenty even with rigs built via the 'PC Builder' section?

*that was 2 questions :p

RTB i've just sent a webnote about getting some stuff added to a build and got the reply :-

Thank you for your webnote. Unfortunately we do not offer a custom build service so would be unable to build the system for you.

Regards,

Name removed

Does that mean it's no longer a goer :(
I'm going to order Friday, sick of waiting for the cheque! Should I just give the number you quoted a call or is they no chance in any customisation at all?

edit: Just checked your pre built home page, and clearly states if you can't find the perfect PC we'll do you a custom build!
Surely i've been given the wrong information in the webnote?

You have been mis-advised. I will look into it.

If possible I would like to have a quick chat on MSN regarding the system as we are currently re-designing our entire range. :)
