howdy doodily all:p

ok this weekend i'm thinking, only thinking mind you!! of attempting a lil bit of an overclock. never done it b4, no clue where to start! so gonna be doing a fair bit of reading/researching/googling!! just wondering if anyone can tell me if the mobo in my spec is easy enough to oc? i'm using this cooler

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-029-CM&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

i know it aint the best but as i'm only planning a relatively small overclock (just wanna see if i can actually do it ) i'm hoping it'll suffice?

any hints and tips would be most greatfully received :D

you should be able to overclock a little. If you want to take it further though yiou will want a more powerful heatsing&fan combo. download realtemp and use that to monitor your overclocks when running prime95. If prime fails or your temps are above 70 celcius reduce the clock.

Mate, seriously read as many of the OC'ing guides on here, they are an invaluable source of help.
Then search for threads on your mobo/CPU combo and see if anyone else has posted questions or settings for what you have. You may find some settings that will help you or find out answers to problems before you even encounter them!

Good luck mate

quick question for some1:D .....

dOothe following terms all mean the same, or rather are they all talking about the same thing FSB/HOST CLOCK/BCLK?

jeez trying to learn about this overclocking malarkey is confusing, been at it since 6pm and not really much further forward lol

I know FSB = front side bus
Dont know what Clock/Bclk means

Your FSB is linked to your oc but you will know about that from reading the guides.

I dont know if I am allowed to, and please accept appologee's and delete this if I am not!

Hude amount of information about clocking that line of boards. Hope this helps.

As phunky phish says, FSB = Front Side Bus which is what you will be concentrating on during your overclock.
Host clock im not to sure about but it probably means stock clock speed, which is the clock speed that your CPU comes at i.e. your i5 should be at 2.66Ghz i think.
BCLK i think stands for Base clock which is the frequency that changes all your CPU clock domains. (not just individual core clocks)
I'm not familiar with the i5's as of yet so cannot give you much advice on oveclocking, but for starters go into your bios, alter your BCLK frequency to 150 and start from there. That should be a small overclock for this CPU but as far as I know they run hot so keep an eye on your temps!!! Download Core Temp 0.99.5 and CPU-Z and run a stress test on prime95. I hear that 71C is a common temp for the i5's and i7's to be running at so creeping up to 80C under stress shouldn't be to much to worry about but when they start hitting 90C you should tweek it down a little untill you get a better cooler. Good luck and play safe.
