Right then, been trying to read up as much as i can for overclocking but tbh im getting a little frazled with all the info ive taken in. I'm basically looking to get some pointers as to how to tackle getting the most out of my system.

I have:
Opteron 146 on arctic freezer 64
Fatal1ty AN8 Sli mobo
2gb Corsair XMS C2PT (4x512mb)
XFX 7800gt 256mb

Now i know my cpu has a x10 multiplier and that my memory will be a little unstable at default settings with a fsb over 205ish (from what ive read on these forums)
Basically what should be the 1st thing i do and how will that affect what i want to do etc etc. Iwould be happy if i could clock this to about 2.6ghz but would love to take this as far a possible.

If anyone can help ill be very grateful.

Thanks

drop the HTT multi to 3, put the RAM on a low divider, set the cpu volts stock if its on auto or 1.4 and start uping the frontsdie bus, keep an eye on temps. if it fails to boot or anything up the volts (dont go above 1.55/1.6 upto you) dont go above 2.8v for ram i'd say altho i dunno much about this and keep going till you get high enough that you cant go anymore, max volts, temps to high etc etc then drop it by 5/10mhz and test fpr stability

nothing should be left on auto really

once the fsb has reached its max should i then increase the multiplyer until i get the same result (ie unstable, to hot etc etc)

yup, as you increase the fsb to up the cpu speed it will also up the ram speed and im assuming yours is pc3200 but i dont personnalt know how well it will over clock but usually they will do a bit more then they do at stock so generally just drop it to the lowest divider and the up it to one thats closer to stock when you have reached your max oc on the ram

Ye my ram is pc3200, so thats runs at 200, 400 effective. If in the bios i drop that to 333 does that mean that it'll run at 166 now? or does that have a different effect? Sorry if these are noob questions just trying to understand everything :)

dunno, probably will, easiest way to see what it would run at is to drop it then reboot and go into bios and it'll tell you
