hi guys,
My 1st time new w/c 800d set up for ideas, please

wcdesign.jpg

A few questions to start off ;
1. My idea is to use spare 5.25 bays for combined pump and res and shorten pipe lengths. Lots of set ups mount pump over bottom intake fan, then hang a res in the middle of the case when the bays are left empty. The XSPC res will even slide forward to allow easy access to fill
2. Is it worth waiting until late August to get a i7 950 cheap or get a 730 now
3. I chose the ASUS mobo cos there a few negative comments on the Gigabyte, any reason to pay more for the premium ?
4. maybe sharkoon fans or something stronger, not sure how much depth there is available ?
future tweaks ? cool NB and SB, change clips for nice comp fittings, some colour in the tubes

thanks folks

In your spec you listed a 140.3 rad. If i remember correctly the 800d has a mount for a 120.3 in the roof, but doesnt have pre drilled holes for a 140.

As above, unless your planning on modding the case yourself, the 140.3 won't fit up top on the 800D.

I'll personally get rid of the FluidXP coolant and get distilled water from a supermarket? along with a silver killcoil or biocide.
Change the fans to the Gentle Typhoons too, everything else looks good.

ok, first is buying the 800D because you want to water cool it? because the CM 690 II is better for internal water cooling and smaller. If you did this then you'd want a 280 rad and a 240

swap the corsair dominators for XMS3's, the memory speed makes no difference whatsoever.

Have you got the 5970 already? because dual GTX 470's are a better deal, cost about the same, perform better

I would advise against plastic clips and stubby fittings, both provide a considerably higher chance that the tubing will come off of the fitting while the LCS is on

the idea with getting 7/16" tubing is because it is a really tight fit on 1/2" fittings, you don't get it for 7/16" fittings

and finally don't buy coolant, get distilled water and a kill coil, far better

Hi mate a few observations / comments

1 - the DVD won't go in the top slot as the barbs / tubes of the rad will foul it - best off with the fan controller in the top slot and the DVD lower down

2 - remember plenty of slack if you use the bay res as the fill / drain port is set back from the face. Also may be tight to access with the fan controller above and the DVD below - may have to take the front face of the case off for better access

3 - completely agree with the above on the tube / fittings sizes

4 - as above check but I don't think. Pa140.3 will fit without mods

5 - 7/16 over 1/2" barbs are s good tight fit but if you do go with hose clips get some decent ones not those crappy plastic ones :£

I've just completed my 700d case swap - may want to take a look at the build log which is :

replies, thx

Reaper ;
1. thx for spotting the 140 mistake, will swap for rad for black ice
Dimi ;
2. will swap fans for 120mm ones, if I plan on having a fan controller does it make sense to buy 2000 rpm fans and turn them down unless o/c ing ?
3. Will use distilled water, cant get more eco than that
TB ;
4. Put the stubbies on list cos they were the only stock item, will change them for regular from somewhere else to improve bite
5. will swap clips for coolance clips like you
6. Missed your build when first choosing a case cos I like the window of the 800 and had settled on it. Nice build, might pinch your filling idea and match all my fans too . Looks like you have lots of bundles coming off your PSU, no problems with airflow to the lower fan ?
7. will swap DVD and controller positions

HW91 ;
8. I prefer the 360 rad in the 800d and still can add another rad at the back if needed over the CM690.
9. Already have a 5970
10. will look again at RAM

Looking close to the button push buying time ! but gotta decide on the processor...

HI - there are some cable bundles - these are better here than in the rear panel which gets quite congested - doesn't seem to affect airflow there is still plenty of open grille :)

TB
seeing how your side door bulged out has me a little worried, I will hold off getting some black PSU cable extenders until I see how muchj space I have, although I plan on only 1 hdd and 1 ssd.
Ordered the pc bits, just waiting on the final loop spec

There is plenty of space in the rear panel mate, but I just wanted it as tidy as possible (belive it or not :P) and decided the PSU bay was preferable to the rear panel :D
