Hey,

i just bought myself a new gpu and mobo to get me through next year until DX10, i have 4 x 512mb sticks,(crucial pc3200) i was wondering whether i would be best using 1gb in 1T or 2gb in 2T for overclocking, does using 2T reduce ocing performanc or is it fine and i should just go ahead with the same latencies as i would if it was 1T

Thx ppl!

It doesn't matter how fast your ram is if you don't have enough. If you play games like battlefield 2 and oblivion in fairly high resolution then you would be best off with 2 GB of ram. The 1t/2t issue does make a noticeable difference in benchmarks, although you won't notice in real world scenarios.

As for timings just use the same ones for both 1 and 2 gb configurations, although be aware that populating all ram slots will normally affect overclocking. You may even need slightly more juice than before. I'd start with 1gb, see what it can do and go up to 2gb.

No sense in having the sticks sitting in your drawer is there. ;)

yeh exaclty what i thought mate, ok cool. will start off with 1T, then go to 2gb in 2T, the cpu i have is a venice 3500! so there pretty efffiecient cores. so shoudlnt be a problem when giving it extra juice. ;)

Its a good job you have a Venice & not a Winchester. The Winchester drops the bus speed from 200Mhz to 166Mhz with 4 sticks of ram - the Venice doesn't. :p

I'd start with about 2.7 - 2.8 volts for the ram I think.

Anything like BF2 or Oblivion will use more than 1gb, so you'll run into paging with just 1gig which will slow things down no end. In that situation you'd be much better off with 2Gb 2T than 1Gb 1T.

oh ok! thx, yeh that article was quite old. i dont play oblivion, but i play prey. so that will be the same i assum.

oblivion on ma 360 is the way to go.
