Just got a new 1tb dive and stuck it in, but it's not showing in windows. Do I need to format it or something and how do I do that.

Right-Click on the “My Computer” icon either on your desktop or in the Start Menu and select “Manage.”

A new window titled “Computer Management” comes up.
Select “Storage” from the left hand side by clicking it once, then select “Disk Management (local)” from the right side by double-clicking it. Find your new drive and format it with one large partition.

GPT (GUID partition table) is generally used for EFI systems (like Macs), whereas standard PC bios' use MBR (Master boot record).

You can use a GPT disk in a Windows Vista machine as a data drive (you cannot boot from it unless you use the IA-64 architecture, which is Intel Itanium processors), but whether it's advantageous is up to you.

So yeah, stick with MBR methinks.

Ta all sorted.. Now just to copy all my files across.

Says about 40mins for 200GB ..
This is going to take a while. Got another 3 drives after that one.

Thats the downside to having a huge drive and a huge amount of data to backup. ;)

Put the kettle on or pour a wee glass of wine ( that's what I do....!!! ). :)

Of to work in an hour. Silly dhl Delivering late. Wanted to get at least all the new components in and all data backed up ready to install vista tomorrow.

Still got to try and recovery my data of a 500GB hard drive that the sata connection is broken of..

Cant wait for ssd drives to fall in price and increase in speed and capacity.
