2.0/2.1 speakers for TV?

My father in law wants to replace his bulky soundbar with a pair of speakers, or a pair plus a sub to hide behind the TV cabinet.

Has anyone got any recommendations up to around £100 please? He just wants something that will sound better than the built in TV speakers. Cheers.

The Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 is the go-to pair of speakers in that price range but you'd still need an amp to run them. Have a rummage on Gumtree and the like for locals off loading their gear.
