I bought an external HDD , 2.5" from Ebay ... its powered by a USB connection and came with a cable with 2 USB connectors on one end, incase the extra power is needed.
HDD doesn't work with just one connector so had to use both ...
however it seems that even that isn't enough as it regularly stops being recognised as a writable media by windows and starts beeping (as it used to beep when I tried using only 1 USB connector and found out that it wasn't getting enough power)
So I thought I'd try replacing the external casing with another one I have but it seems they have different connections for the drive
The spare 2.5" casing I have has a female IDE connector whereas the hard drive doesn't have corresponding pins.. rather it has that thin wafer type connection that slides into a corresponding horizontal cavity in its existing case... the HDD is a 100GB Seagate Momentus (5400rpm batch)
can anyone help me in picking the right 2.5" casing for the HDD ..links would be useful ... does OCUK provide such a casing?
thanks!
