Hi,

I am wanting to update my main pc and server to 10GB (main PC has 2.5GB on board) howevere this is currently connected through a TP-Link TL-SG1024 switch though only currently have 6 connections.

What I think I am looking for is a 10 port (8*2.5GB + 2 10GB) switch and a couple of NIC's so what would you reccomended?

Budget wise not looking to spend a fortune but just want reliability.

regards,

Matt

Maybe a bit more expensive (depending upon the cost of SPF adapters) but you might consider the TP Link TL-SX1008 and ST1008 which offer 8x RJ45 ports which all do up to 10 Gbps, including 2.5 Gb and 5 Gb (though I've not tested that on my ST1008). I have two ST1008 switches purchased in Dec 2022 and they've been rock solid. I did mod them with a Noctua fan to make them even quieter.

I use Intel NICs on most devices but this PC has an onboard 10 Gb NIC.

Managed or unmanaged? One of the many Chinese random-name switches will do you fine if you want a bog standard switch. An 8 port copper 2.5Gb and dual SFP+ cage switch without PoE will run under £70, and under £100 with PoE AT from the usual next day places. They're built on Realtek switch chips and do the job OK. I like the YuanLey ones and run two no bother.

Thanks for the responses.

Current switch is unmanaged, now poe i could possibly use as I am putting a wap in the garage that I will power via poe.
