2 6800s or 1 7800gtx

Hi there im upgrading my graphics card and have about £350 to spend, do i go for two XFX GF 6800GS XXX 256MB PCI-E or one XFX GeForce 7800GTX 256MB PCI-E. I run 2 monitors and was told when i run a game on only one to get the best out of the dual cards i would have to unplug one monitor and use a special cable to plug both cards into one screen, is this right? if so would i be better off with the 7800gtx thanks for any advice

I'd go with the 7800, since SLI doesn't work with all games. You can always add another 7800 later.
Btw, there's no 'special cable' for your monitor with SLI, you just use the regular DVI output from one of the cards.

GTX by FAR. Could wait a while (a month or so) until ati's 1900 series which should smack the pants of the 7800's.

True SLI does work with all games, except for some games SLI is actually slower than a single card of the same type.

BTW - 1x 7800GTX would be my choice too.

I suppose I'm not going to argue with that but I would guess now we're up to forceware 82.xx that most of those bugs were ironed out a while ago. Where it matters (ie farcry, FEAR, doom3, quake4 etc etc etc) it works.. and works really well!

Anyway back OT.. just look at typical 3dm 05/06 scores, I believe 1 7800gtx does roughly equal 2 6800gts.

Ultras its a bit skewed but still.. for the price difference 7800gtx all the way!

Definately the single 7800 in my eyes. It will outperform the two 6800's by a fair bit, and then you also won't have the hassle of having to mess around with SLi and the troubles it can bring.
