I got a DFI ultra D mb which is not sli ready but I moded the chipset and switched the SLI on and put 2 7900gs in wooowwww what a diffrence in performance. it is ducking fast res 1280 1024 max quality stock core speed
in 03 I got 27,000 now thats not bad for a MB which cost 60quid.
So next is to see what I get with eveything set to performance still at stock speeds.
any one else using 2 7900gs in SLI mode would like to know how you are doing.

cheers

They are great cards for that money and they seem to clock like nobodies business, even without volt mods or a change of cooler. Especially the OcUk ones. I'd be interested to see how far you can get them stabley. I wouldn't be surprised if you could compete with a 7950GX2 or a pair 7900gts, even overclocked ones. It's a shame that your CPU is a tad underpowered, but I can see you've built a true value of money system with a lot of decent last-gen equipment that you probably picked up for a song.

A good 7950GX2 will get about 33K at stock in 03 I don't know about about a 7900GT SLI setup, should be roughly similiar...

currently getting 41.5K IIRC with my current setup/overclocks.

True, but those 7900gs' overclock a dam sight more than a 7950GX2 or un-modded 7900gt. I think they'll make up the gap.

I'll run 3dmark03 now (if i've still got it) and see what I get.

Well just tested (as its been awhile) and I get 38K with my normal overclocks and 41K with the odd artifact :(

You'd have to get the core on the 7900GS to 600MHz before you stood a chance of beating a 7950GX2 at stock, and 720MHz to beat a GX2 running at +20% OC - which they will all do safely out the box... it might be possible to get a GS to 600 but 720 I highly doubt...

although the OP got 27K with I assume stock clocks which is no mean feat.

We'll see. I think he'll compete, and I suspect you've got a couple a grand advantage just using a better processor.

I sadly don't have it installed anymore. I'll race you in 05 or 06 though. ;)

I'm not posting my 06 scores :P

My 05 scores ain't great tho, only 18-19K or something, but I've not really played with it.

I agree the CPU is deffinatly giving me a considerable advantage - not just in the CPU score section, hes doing pretty well to get 27K out of a 3700+ and PC3200 RAM tho.

18-19k in 05? I'd have thought it'd be more in the 11k-14k region depending on settings and overclocks.

In fact after a quick scan of futuremark, I think only half a dozen people in the world have scored that high with a 7950gx2, and i'd guess that was using some fairly tight cooling.

I get about 12.8k gaming stable and 14k working the nuts off.

Yep I am now saving to get a 4600*2 proc so that should do the job, I did test with everything set to max quality and got 27,000 in 03 @ stock,
now I have upped the core to 630 and mem @1500 and will test with max performance so here I go.

both 7900gs are OCUK the dfi ultra D from OCUK and the proc from OCUK approx £60.

so all in all its not a bad system for the money, thanks to OCUK with excellent prices.

lol you'll have a very similar rig to me :) no idea what i get in 3D mark on this setup, haven't ran it recently and can't be bothered to re-dowload it :p

well I got just short of 30thou, with a change of settings, so Im happy,
have still yet to OC the proc everything is at stock speeds.
Man what a diffrence when I played call of duty2 its bloodygood stuff.
so I will be spending the next couple of days seeing what I can get out of my system.

Only problem is the price of dual core 939 4600+ over 150 so I might have to have a look at a second hand one after xmass. :)

cheers all

just 1 thing how well do these cards compaire to 1 ATI X1950?

Hard to say without benching 05 and 06 against one... but you have about 50% faster on paper in all areas except shader ops, which the ATI has over you on paper - tho if it makes much real difference is hard to say... my setup generally beats a 1950xtx CF rig in most areas so you probably aren't that far behind a high end CF setup (for about 1/4 of the price).

I'm waiting with baited breath.

hope you weren't holding your breath... had to run out to an xmas party...

heres what I get with _normal_ settings (except the CPU OC)

I'll post one with the highest clocks I can get stable soon - but having some cooling issues atm I need to look into :| thats stopping me getting the clocks I usually get stable.

how do I go about putting a jpeg on the post so I can show the results as you have done.
The more I am using SLI mode with games the more I get the feeling as if this is the first time I have played the game Like COD2 it just brings a whole new life to your games, So I say good job nvidia with SLI my father has gone to ATI and crossfire he's looking at 2 ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express).
I have not set up a crossfire system so I'm looking forward to seeing what the end result is, should be cool I think.

cheers

I agree that having an SLI, CF or equivalent brings a whole new dimension to games, being able to run current games with ultra settings and still get silky smooth framerates helps to retain the immersion.

an x1950 pro CF setup would be quite a beast on paper.
