Plugged in a 4870X2 into the blue 2.0 x16 slot on a P5Q Pro and then an X850XT into the black slot also. Fired up system with the expectation that the X850 could simply be used as a device which sends output to 2 more screens. However, the system didnt even pick up the card, not in device manager or in catalyst.

Maybe my advice has been wrong, but I was told that this could be done in this way. Basically I only need the 2nd card to output a signal to 2 more screens. But bow I am thinking that because the X2 is effectively Crossfire'd already, then the 2nd card wont work.

Any suggestions ?

You should be able to do this. Being as the card isn't even being seen, are you sure that the card, and the pci slot work?

My 3870 works fine with my X800, however the fan is at full speed until Windows loads the driver for the second card once I reach the desktop. Can you hear the fan for your second card? If you can't this would be a sign that there's no power going to the card...

What PCIe lane config do you have? Mine works fine in the 16/4 (I think) config...

I recall something about the newer ATi drivers not supporting older cards.

think they suppot X700 cards an above now ?

Just a thought, but have you also connected a 4x Pin molex to the board, as some boards require one to supply extra power to the slots when your either doing Xfire, or seperate cards in both slots.

That starts from the 9.4's, they will only support 2000 series and up, with older cards only getting supported quarterly (i think) from now on.
