Hello everyone.

I have a friend currently learning html/css from W3Schools etc and he is looking at moving on to Flash and PHP. However, he really wants books for these subjects so he can read them while away at work and put them into practice when he is back.

Any suggestions?

Surely someone must have at least one suggestion...

It is a real shame that the Head First series don't do a book for either of these subjects as I am currently reading their HTML and C# ones. very good.

They are working on the PHP one at the moment, it is due for release in the next few months. I am reading "PHP 6 AND MySQL 5 for Dynamic Websites" which I am finding quite easy to follow plus they don't bore you to death installing and configuring all of the applications over the first chapters like some books. They tell you to get XAMPP which is a package that contains everything you need already configured. I know it is important to learn how to setup the applications but only when you have a grasp of the language.

I'd usually recommend books from O'Reilly Press, as do a lot of other people, i haven't used the PHP/Sql specific ones but the books for other subjects like AD, SMTP, Asterisk etc have been very very good.
