I'm setting up a small WiFi hotspot service for a B&B.

But they have 2 buildings, and one reception. 2nd building is about 50m and across a main road

The control server is in the reception. So i need all wifi access points to connect to this main server.

I was going to install a building to building wireless bridge on the roof of each building. If that is the best way what outdoor wireless access point/bridge do you recommend.

Or is there a way to set it up across a WAN where a server can still control the access of users.

Thanks.

You could VPN from the far building back into the reception but that would require a second internet connection in the far building, and a VPN server of some kind setup there too.

I think the Wifi bridge seems the simplest idea.
50m should be reliable enough with outdoor AP's. Anyone have any recommendations. This is a small business, so some of the enterprise stuff will be above budget.

I'm looking only for 5GHz kits. Or should I not rule out 2.4GHz?

Why only 5GHz? There are still a lot of modern phones and tablets that don't support 5GHz, not to mention laptops only a few years old also being in this category. Dual band for sure.

He means for the bridge, not the AP.

I'd use 5Ghz if possible to reduce the amount of potential interference you'd get on 2.4Ghz, but only if the price is not massively more.

I don't mind dual band but I just need to bridge the signal between the 2 buildings.
The receiving access point will then distribute it to dual band access points in that other building.

TP LINK TL-WA7901ND X2
Compact High Gain Directional Corner Antenna for Wireless Networks (MAPLINS) X2
Tesco, ASDA, for 2 sealed and locking cliped lunch boxes
Ethernet cable

The TP can run in bridge to ap, it's bridge and works. I have a link with the above some 400m apart. It's running off 80MB BT BB and has not failed yet. The POE that comes with the TP link is ideal, one cable power and data all done.

The Maplins item is £20 each so £40. They work, i found what helped to get best alinement was a laser pointer on one end and a friend on ther other. Get the lined up perfectly it'll give you some more headroom.

The boxes, the sealed clip locking one are great as they are totaly waterproff. I use some encloser seal bung to seal the cable going in. Drill hole, bit of sealent and screw it up. I run both AP & reflector in the same box. I just cable tie it all togther and then into place.

Clearly set the ap in bridge on the ground first and get them working as it. Then add the reflectors and test more.

Also you can run a switch off the other end, in my case this has a 24 ports gig switch with an 3rd TP LINK TL-WA7901N to offer wifi on that site.

It's a nice cheap (lees than £100 off hightstreet, less if shop around) soild setup and more of mu clients are asking for it. Done 5 this week alone due to the price of runing length of cables, new lines, relocation of lines and no lines.

Let me know how you get on
