Thanks

Not sure about the brand question.

But a single 8800 will be very nice on a 30inch screen :)

Why do you want to overclock the 8800 are you crazy? :

They are going to destroy any games out at max settings.

You dont need to clock them you wont see any boosts in performance

Also im not sure about this but the 8800 might have to run in a full x16 PCI-Express lane.

What motherboard have you got?

I am future proofing :-) mother board and rest of spec in sig but abit in9 32 max.....

mix and match brands.

you will need sli if you intend to run games at high quality at native res with good fps.

You will need a more powerful PSU for SLI 8800gtx's, 1kw is recommended.

Corsair proudly demonstrated themselves, a quad core, gtx sli set-up working perfectly.

HX620W is a rock solid psu.

There's no such thing mate. The depreciation on your rig will be horrendous, and by the time you actually need the specs you have there will be parts out that are cheaper and kick them into touch. Sad yet true. :)

Yeah and please check that your motherboard supports 2x x16 PCI-Express please otherwise they wont work. Someone Correct me?

Your motherboard might say SLI Ready but all that means is that your motherboard has got 2 PCI-Express slots not necessarily 2, 16x PCI-Express slots.

I will :p

It doesnt need 2x16 slots (running at that speed)

even x8 will do.

He has the abit 680 though, so no problems.

It does require 2 X 16 slots and 8X will not do!

Note: These cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended.

Explain how sli with 8800gtx works on my dfi lanparty nf4 expert then.

My 8800GTX manages between 5 FPS and 12 FPS in Flight Simulator X on max settings @ 1920x1200. What's getting destroyed there? :D

The cards MUST be in 16x slots... that's unfortunately non-negotiable. :)

Unfortunatly you are both incorrect.

As someone stated above they will work fine in 8x slots with no performace loss over 16x slots. Its nVidia hype.

See here:

We had heard rumors that the 8800 GTX cards would thrive on the dual x16 capable 680i chipset but in looking at the results in our two test games it appears there is very little difference in the scores between the two nForce 600i boards. We did not have any issues running our 8800 GTX SLI setup on the dual x8 capable 650i board...

Several other places have confirmed that 8800's work perfectly fine in 8x slots.

In SLi x8+x8 is still x16 bandwidth to the cpu. Bear in mind the two cards share an additional SLi bridge. Thats not quite the same as saying a single GTX won't have bandwidth issues with the x8 (2000 MB/s half-duplex) single slot.

Chap here had issues with the lower x8 slot on an Ultra-D. Things improved in the upper x16 slot. It may well be bandwidth problems only occur depending on resolution/aliasing etc, i.e high cpu traffic.
