sapphire x1950 Pro 512mb agp
corsair hx 520W

now that's about 223 squids total. i think the card will be a decent match for my dothan @2.6ghz and 2gb of ocz ram. my screen res is only 1440x900 which is even less taxing than 1280x1024. i think that would last me well into 2008 as i'm only a moderate gamer.

but my dilemma is this. i've come into some money unexpectedly so could actually afford the conroe/pci-e new rig option. i'm thinking along the lines of

ds3
e6400 (prefer this over the e6300 for the 8x multi - looking for an easy 3.2ghz

)
2gb geil pc6400
connect 3d x1950xt
corsair hx 520w

now this little lot is about 660. is it really worth the upgrade for me. as mentioned i'm only really a casual gamer and don't do anything in windows whatsoever that would make use of dual core.

i've almost convinced myself the conroe would be wasted on me. oh what to do.....

Hmm....

i think its better to save the money... Dothan is pretty decent and since you're not a hardcore gamer, no point to get the latest now..

From the uses you describe the Conroe system probably would be slightly wasted on you since you say you don't really need the extra power and describe yourself as a moderate gamer. You might even find that the 256mb X1950pro would be enough but I guess since you have the cash at the moment that there is no harm in getting the 512mb.

cheers guys - some sensible replies. i read so many threads where people are specced up for stuff they don't need. this makes a refreshing change.

oh and i won't be spending a single penny on a tv. complete waste of money in my eyes. i hardly ever watch the damn thing. i might get a tv card though, so i can do away with this bush 20in monstrosity that i currently have.

only the 512mb version is in stock the moment - that's why i've chosen it. saying that, i can't get it until the new year and i dare say things will have changed by then.

lack of funds is what prohibits me. i believe ocuk are open wed/thu/fri of the week coming. this extra money i'm getting won't clear until the 5th jan. and my normal money from my wages has got to me last me through xmas and new years so no chance of using that.
