Hey.

In our house we have Sky broadband and its 2.5mb line (best in our area) and since we have 4 people using the net sometimes at once, it lags.

I was wondering how do I go about getting my own seperate internet, but in the same house?

I don't know how much my parents internet costs, but I'm guessing I will have to pay the same as them and then more for installation?
 
Well if you can get Virgin call them and ask them to install, if you can't get cable then call another provider and ask them to install a line and BB.

EDIT: If the option exists to up your current package then do this and offer to pay the difference for your parents.

SNEAKY: log into router and manage all connected devices, throttle everyone else and reap the rewards all for yourself.

Nah, I wont mess with the router settings.

2.5 mb is the best (they actually upgraded it 6 months ago, was worse.. lol)

I just want to know how to get my own seperate net to my family.
 
Do I not need a new phone line set up, though and whatever else is required? I want to know the expenses and what needs to be done before I do that ;o
 
Yes you may need an additional phone line although this depends on whether you can get Virgin media in. Costs are going to be installation and first month up front, you can get all this plus deals from whichever provider you choose. This is one of the questions were your time is best spent looking at the respective websites or picking up the phone, most have call centres in India anyway so they'll answer even at this time :p
 
Will cost a lot.

I'm in similar situation and BT quoted £40 a month (incl line rental etc, installation fee etc) for 12mths.

Alternatively I think it's £130 for a second line to be installed, then average line rental: £10 p/month, broadband £18 p/month.
 
virgin will charge around £30 to install there cable line plus around £40 a month for phone and fibre.

BT will charge £125 to install a new line then around £30 for standard broadband and phone.
