I had 2 x 2gb of XMS3 memory which was working fine the model number was
CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 1.65v ver 2.3. I decided to purchase an extra 2 x 2gb of the same model number and voltage but when i got them they were ver 6.0.
My system fails the mem86+ test when i have all 4 sticks in place but no problems if i only use 2 sticks.

Could the different versions really make that much difference?

i have treid all 4 sticks individually and in pairs with no problem, it is only when i have all 4 in that memtest fails.
I have the Asus P8Z68 - V Pro motherboard set to run at stock speeds

I was getting several BSOD and quite a few other problems. when i tested all 4 sticks using the latest memtest some times it would pass all tests then fail on the 2nd run. With only 2 sticks (of either version) they passed 5 tests with no errors.

Thanks for your help. Have you got any idea what the mobo would set the timings at when in auto?
Also i'm not sure if the 2 things are connected but when i had 4 sticks of ram i was getting problems with things like scannow which would never complete. As soon as i went to 2 sticks scannow completed with out a problem.

CPUz shows the following. I am unsure about the second screen shot

My screenshot is the same as yours but i am confused about the spd screen which shows 3 jedec columns which show different values.

Thanks for all your help guys, i will do all the suggestions tonight as it will be nice to run with 8gb of ram. At the moment i have 4gb sat on my desk which is about as much use as a chocolate ashtray.
I'll let you know how i get on.

Hi Guys
I have finally had a chance to set the frequency on my memory to 1600Mhz. I haven't changed the command rate but have run 4 hours of memtest with no errors at all.

Hopefully that will be the end of it.
Thanks
