Hi OCUK

This is a question that's bothered me for sometime and ive recently come to a decision for upgrading/replacing existing memory.

I have a second PC which is an i5 currently running 8 gig of memory 2 x 4 gig Corsair vengeance.

I want to upgrade to 16gb.

Can i simply buy another corsair kit (i.e.e add two more of the same dim) bringing 4*4 16gb or is it better to replace both with 2 8gb dimms?

Thanks for looking and helping.

H

If you are overclocking the chip with an extreme overclock increasing to 4 dimms will put more load on the IMC and probably de-stabilise the overclock.

If it's a non extreme OC then 4 dimms will be fine

1st of all why 16GB? next it depends on the motherboard whether it's single dual or quad channel memory, if dual channel then 2 sticks will give the optimum performance.

Finally unless you are really stretching the PC you probably won't notice the difference between 1, 2 or 4 memory sticks or between 8 and 16GB.

More of your PC spec would be useful.

Andi.

put the money to a new GPU over more ram at this stage mate.

Call of Duty will not need more than 8GB i have run it (what a naff game) on 8gb and it no where near maxed the ram out. not even close.
