Neither of which will read or burn dual layer properly. The writers are a sata samsung lightscribe and the other is a pioneer 108. I am sure the problem is due to a windows update as I didn't have this problem with a simple xp sp2 install. Anybody have any ideas?
Mobo is a ds3p.

You need both the Intel and Jmicron/GigaRaid driver software installed else the things won't run properly from what I've seen.

They are both installed. Wonder if its the Jmicron/Gigaraid driver that causing the problem?

Take out the SATA drive mate, and i bet all your troubles vanish.

i have ditched my samsung sata dvd-rw drive, new from here, but it would not burn cd-r's dvds dl and such were fine. but it was too much of an issue getting it to work properly.

Try the ide drive on its own.

Well it's certainly an idea-a drastic one at that but prior to thhis I'll try moving the sata over to the gigabyte slots first. Thanks :) Peculiar problem really because single layer reading and writing is fine lol
