I am using p4-530 oyeah, it's old)
550 psu with 1g ram and a 7900gs .
I am really tempted by a 2g ddr2 kit(2 x 1g) for less then £30.
Is 2 gigs of RAM really worth it?
what do you say?
I have p4 530 which was the first generation that intel use lga 775 slot.
right now I have 2 x 512mb ddr2 533.
I plays cod2. need for speed. orange box while cod4 is on the way.
If your mobo supports the new intel chips drop a Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 in there aswell much better than a P4, and ofc get the ram cos its such a good price
2GB has been needed since FEAR/CoD2 and a few other games of that era, obv I mean to MAX the game not run at low settings.
FEAR made me buy 2GB as 1GB was ate up along with the 1.5GB Page File.
I dont know how you can game well with the memory left over after Windows takes its chunk out of your 1GB esp the games have moved on more so than ones mentioned above.
XP unlike Vista does not let go of Memory when needed by another APP.
Bit late I s'pose but to answer the question you need to use the performance tab on the Windows Task Manager. If the memory usage is over your physical memory in your favourite applications then you will have memory being paged to the hard disk swap file and things will be slow. In this case a memory upgrade is the single cheapest best thing you can do. The results of eliminating paging from day to day use on your system can be stunning.
