Hi folks, I'm building a machine for a friend who is really into the serious flight sims (you know, 747s and such) and wants a new rig (he has all the really sophisticated throttle controls on his desk - looks freaky if you ask me lol).

For people into that kind of thing, apparently 3 monitors is what you aim for, one for front view, and two on either side for side views out of the cockpit...

If I build a machine with, say, 2 x 7900GTXs, is he going to be able to run the latest MS flightsim with decent graphics across 3 monitors? How would you wire it up etc??

Can anyone into flight sims maybe offer some advice?

Ta

Sorry, but thinking about it would he be better of with a big widescreen monitor for his main display, and another at the side showing controls/dials etc?

Tbh I'm not sure how MS flight-sims work - I prefer COD2 myself

use 4 monitors, one widescreen for main display, then 2 19" for side view, then the fourth for dials alone. you wont need 7900GTX's better off getting 2 X1800XT 256's or even 2 7600GT's.

2 x 7600GTs running four huge monitors??? You should lay off whatever you're smoking m8

I'm speccing this machine so it can handle MS's *next* flight-sim that's due out later this year, so this baby is going to need as much power as it can get...

I built exactly what you're suggesting for the local air cadets. I used a 3700, 2Gb of Geil Value, and more crucially 2 6800GS cards. They were hooked up to 3 17" TFTs and it worked perfectly. Just get an SLI board and don't run in SLI.

Excuse me there is no need for those childish comments. And no need for the roll eyes and the 'whatever your smoking' comment. Grow up!

odd, ms flight sim is not even gfx intensive the lates one ran fine on my ti4200 with all settings maxxed out at 1280x960.

the game is more cpu limited than gfx, not sure how it would hold up though when 4 monitors are used.
