Hey guys, done some research but didn't find any relative information on what I want to do.

I own an LG IPS 231 which has both VGA and DVI inputs.

At the moment I'm using an ATI 5850 with windows 7 and it's still great in games, but it sucks so much in my linux distros, cause of drivers or whatsoever.

My old acer laptop with its 8600m runs smoother in ubuntu that my 5850 does, makes me wanna cry.

Was wondering, is it possible to buy a cheap nvidia card and install it alongside the 5850 and use it for linux only? As in, having 5850 drivers installed in win7 and nvidia drivers installed in linux?

I suppose I should connect both inputs on the 2 cards and switch input on the screen everytime I boot between OS's but that's fine with me.

Would I have any problem with windows/linux trying to recognize both cards or anything like that?

I would think it would be more of a problem for your motherboard bios settings but I could be wrong.

What he means is the bios initializes one VGA adapter or the other and this takes precedent in the windows boot. You kinda need to switch between them which is infeasible, im supposing a bit here as i dont know linux at all but if you ran both but only installed drivers for the second would linux allow you to choose display adapter within OS? This would be possible but fiddly in windows
