Hey all,

I am currently using a X1950XTX graphics card with a P5Q Pro as my main PC. I had planned to make an HTPC, but have decided to put all my eggs in o0ne basket for the moment. To play HD/Blue ray discs I need a newer graphics card. However I have an HD2400 from the HTPC. Could i fit this to the second PCIe slot on my mother board and run two graphics cards. but at different times. ie the X1950 for gaming and the HD2400 for media. Each will be used with a different screen also.

I will eventually buy a new GPU (probably a 4870) but in the meantime there is nothing wrong with the X1950.

Will this work? If it does, will it impact on performance? Or am i being silly?

All thoughts/opinions welcome.

Thanks and Merry Xmas:)

Yes, this can be done, i.e. I've seen two of the same Nvidia cards (8800 Ultras) installed in a Crossfire motherboard (for dual screen use).

I'm pretty sure two different ATi cards is feasible, just wondering about the drivers.

running a 4870 and 3450 on an abit IP35 PRO at the moment, no driver conflicts or GPU related issues so far, but i dont really game

my 4870 is there cos i wanted one and it's mainly used for folding

I've just set it up and tested something similar - X1950 Pro and HD2400 in an X48 motherboard and it works fine driving 2 monitors. No problems, as long as you have 2 PCIe x16 (physical) slots.

What? It will work, theres no doubt

With some messing about you can have a Radeon and a GeForce running at the same time if you really wanted to!

Seems more trouble than its worth,I would Just bite the bullet and spend a bit of cash on a better single card.

Question to the wise, would dual booting with seperate cards configured in each solve any problems? not an answer to the question, just a thought.

Trouble? It is really no trouble at all. If you have the components, do it.
