2 graphics cards only good for 2 monitors?

If you were to have a machine with 2 graphics cards (SLI) its this only really used for a dual monitor setup? Or can you benefit from having 2 with 1 monitor?

Just a little unsure, can someone please explain thanks :)
 
Most people go either SLI or CF to give that little extra % and basically just a little leeway when having higher AA on high res :)
 
You can use two graphics cards for one monitor to give more performance in games, you won't get quite double the power but depending on the game and how well it scales you might get 90% extra increase in performance.
 
Yep, single screen here (1920x1200), had a few issues with games with a single gtx 275, added a second to improve performance and allow the use of higher levels of AA, AF.
