I've currently got a 5850 and a Hazro monitor, unfortunately for whatever reason the 5XXX series won't show on this monitor until in Windows. If I install a cheap and nasty graphics card and plug the Hazro into that I will be able to see the BIOS, however my understanding is I wouldn't benefit from the graphical power of the 5850 unless the Hazro was plugged into that, is that the case?

Have you tried updating the BIOS on your motherboard? That may solve the issues with your 5850.
Unless you get another card from the 5800 family you won't be able to use the cards together and therefore won't benefit from the cards power.

It's a known problem with the 5XXX series I'm just waiting and hoping ATI will actually do something about it.
People use ATi cards for graphics and nVidia for PhysX so thought it was worth asking just in case, oh well I'll have to stick with a 15" monitor for BIOS for now...
