Hello guys.

I'm currently on Vista and some applications I want to use with Vista aren't compatible.

I have 2 HDD's and I want to dual boot, but I've never done it before.

I had a brief read on Google and apparently you need to install XP first before Vista, is this true?

Or can it be done as simple as this, Install XP disk, boot from CD-Rom, at HDD selection screen just select my 2nd HDD and install XP to it?

Cheers.

Hello guys.

You don't need to install XP first. You have two drives, so all you have to do is unplug the Vista drive, install XP and then plug the Vista drive back in.

I've read that XP and Vista don't play nicely together ; System Restore. Someone will probably be along to clarify.

I never use system restore so it isn't really a problem for me?

I didn't think it was as simple as unplugging one HDD and installing the OS to the other.

Before I go ahead with this are there any other things that I should know about?

Thanks.

that's the way i do it mate (only have one drive pluged in when installing each os)

then you can use the bios boot selection (some motherboards have a 'press F12 / F10' to select boot option

so you can leave the default as the Vista drive, then if you need the xp one, reboot and press the hotkey (or go into bios and change the boot order)

or

you could install virtualbox and run an xp virtual machine within Vista.. (it's more of a testing environment, but it'd work, just slower than a real install..)
