Hi
Bought 2 sets of this ram CMT32GX4M2D3600C18W. I have one set in each pc, with the view that if I wanted to run with 64gb of ram at some point in the future i could just add them together. But looking at cpuz today i saw 1 set is dual ranked and the other is single ranked.
Its this ram

So all though they are supposed to be the same they are different. So my question is
1) can I mix them together at some point without issues
2) My main pc is for gaming so which set would be better for performance, single or dual
3) Should I return the second set and hope the replacement is the same as the one I decide to keep

Both sets were from the same supplier, bought 3 days apart.

any advice most welcome

1) not sure, probably it would drop to 1 rank to improve compatibility. Dual rank is where there are two 64 bit RAM controllers on a DIMM instead of 1. It's also very rare these days as RAM controllers are expensive and you can just use higher density RAM chip-lets and a single controller to get higher capacities.
2) Use the dual rank kit by it'self for faster gaming performance.
3) You won't find dual rank easily these days. I have one with a busted LED controller on it and I stubbornly refuse to use my much prettier kits which are slower.

If you have to have 64 gigs of RAM, then fine, try run then together. I'd stick with 32gigs of RAM and be happy.

I know people who would bite your hand off for the dual rank kit. I actually know someone who wants a 32gig dual rank 3600 MT/s kit.

thanks for that, I am running the dual rank in my main pc and the other set is in my second pc. Probably will not need 64gb but you never know in the future what I end up doing lol. Its good ram and overclocked to 4000 easily so am very pleased with it. Will be keeping it for a while I should think

It's solid RAM. Soooooo nice that it's also dirt cheap. Enjoy.

By the time you will need/want 64gigs, I think you'll just move to DDR5 anyway. DDR5 makes way more sense than DDR4 at higher capacities and pricing is just dropping more and more and more.
