I havent been able to go and have a look at his machine myself. So any advice that i can pass onto him would be appreciated.

This is his problem:

I have a new build and purchased 2 x Kingston Blu 4gb sticks for it- both are recognised in the SPD in the bios yet it only shows 4gb total memory, Windows is the same, 8gb (4gb available)

Pics of RAM and Bios - windows pic shows 2.96gb available as I had on-board graphics on to see BIOS: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BzGEg1Gp1OnkMWY5dkZhN2Y3RGs&usp=sharing

I have read nearly all the topics and checked off everything - msconfig- max memory unticked, Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

My motherboard is an Asus F2A55-M LK2

I have uploaded a new folder with images showing both the bios, the RAM and the slots. I now have 2x4gb RAM I can't use - please shed some light on this as it is putting my head away. I have 3 sticks of 4gb in total and all 3 work in slot A1, if placed in B1 the computer keeps looping trying to post and doesn't start, is this significant?

Or am I best returning the 2x4gb sticks and getting an 8gb to end my woes? I really don't want to have to rebuild this machine again after only doing it last weekend.

Has your friend tried to update the BIOS on his motherboard ? There could be a new BIOS with better memory handling. Also has he tried resetting the BIOS and then seeing if the system picks up all the memory correctly ?

somethings up if it wont boot from b1 slot

check cpu pins are straight and that your cpu cooler isn't overtightened, try a quarter turn undone on each cooler mounting screw

it will boot into bios and windows with just one stick installed in either of the ram slots

and no don't get 8gb as you'll only be running single channel(one stick) which is slower than dual channel (two ram sticks)
