2 in 1 dead pc :(

hey all

as u may of read earlier my friend fa-'s pc died cos of a surge he thinks. well i went round and had a look and first thing i thought cos the monitor wasnt coming on was something wrong with gfx card(7950)

read here

so i decided to test it in mine.

took mine out, tried fa's it didnt fit cos of my northbridge cooler(the blue hedgehog like one sold on here, i had to cut off a few pins to fit my 7800gtx in)
so i put my card back in, turned on,i have 2 copies of xp on 1 hdd,so i booted as normal. the windows screen with the loading bar came up, then it stoped as the 3rd bar went accross and restarted.

now ive tried reseting bios, cmos, all 3 safe modes, last known settings.

still nothing, restarts at the same point.

so i tried booting my 2nd copy of xp, this take about a minute now(a lot longer than normal). i let scan disk finish tried to log in, the screen after u enter the password hangs for about 2 mins then the start bar apears and icons slowly. it seems that my pc is running uber slow.

how has me removing the gfx card then puting it back in caused all this.

can i get some quick replies plz cos im gonna go buy a new hdd tomorrow to put windows on cos there is a lot of stuff i dont want to lose.

spec is in cig, now not overclocked.

Did it work after you install your 7800GTX back??

if yes then try uninstall Nvidia display driver (make sure you use driver cleaner pro to clear out any "residue" of the driver) while using your 7800GTX, then after that swapped for the 7950 and see if WinXP will take the new device.

If there is any dramatic changes in hardware WinXP will recognise it as a different PC so it will either refue to boot or ask you to re-activate your license.

steve258 the way i read is post i dont think he's having these issues with the 7950 is as he states it wouldnt fit, but that these issues are now happening with his normal 7800, if i am correct, he has changed no hardware at all so nothing should be running so slowly/causing errors.

You may want to check you correctly reseated your 7800, and that the power cable is definately completely connected, also when trying to get his 7950 in you didnt put excessive pressure on the NB cooler did you? NB are relatively sturdy but its obviously not a good idea to stress them, just incase you knocked it a bit you may want to reseat the NB cooler.

Other than that did anything happen to the 7800 while it was out of the case? No damage from dropping it or handling it poorly?

i put the 7800 on top of the case for no longer than a minute. when i put it back in and got the problem, i thought i may have knocked a wire so i rechecked everything and checked every wire. i also took out my gfx card and put it back in, and straightened p the nb cooler.

it seems as if 1 of my copies of windows has *crashed* my 2nd copy eventually loged on after about 5 mins.

i think, im gonna go buy a new hdd today(i was going to get a new hdd for storage anyway) install windows, copy over what i need, reformat my *broken* drive and put the stuff back. i just hope nothing it hasnt affected my 2nd drive.

i would still like to no why it has broke :/
it seems when ever i open my pc something breaks
