Well basically I'm sick to ******* death of getting lagged out whilst playing due to some other fools downloading **** via the net, so I'm wondering if it's possible to get a new phone line put directly into my bedroom and a 2nd internet connection through that? Just for me.

Anyone got similar problems or setups in their house?

rage:mad:

When I lived at home as as teenager I did just that, paid for installation, line rental and ISP :) very easy to do, bit of an outlay in terms pf price for the line etc.

So the first point of call would be to contact BT for a phone line installing? Then hunt down a nice isp :)?

Hmm reading the terms looks like i wouldn't have to pay for that.

So it'd be:

£10.27 - BT Line rental
£13.50 - Be 8mb internet [for example]
£24.00 - connection fee to Be.

Looking good so far, just thinking gonna be buying a new PC as well, what's the point in having a beastly PC and your net holding you back :p

Alternatively, you could consider the WRT54GL and flash with custom Tomato FW with extensive QoS options. You can then set priority for gaming/voip traffic over torrents or other data. Will save you a second line install for a mere £47 at OCUK.

Thought about stuff like that, although as soon as one of them fins out what i'm doing all i'll get is "OMGURELIMITINGZMAINTERNTZWTF" chat, think i'm gonna go ahead and do this :p

I'd take this route.

They aren't going to know if you don't tell them. :)

All you are doing is prioritising traffic.

Yeah that's true, but still they would just kick off about why should i get priority when I don't pay for it :p

I’ve done this, have VM 20MB and Bethere internet, the VM is through their cable service and the Bethere is through the phone line, best way to do it than paying two lots of line rental etc..

Used to run both Blueyonder and ADSL and split web/torrent traffic onto the Blueyonder and kept the DSL for gaming.

Sorry but don't really understand, you mean you got the cable service instead of line rental from BT?

p.s Leeds :D:D where abouts?!

Cable doesn't require a BT phone line. He's paying BT rental for one phone line, Bethere rental for broadband on that line, and VM for a separate cable broadband service.

This. It was in camden when the blueyonder network there was terrible (packetloss when it rained), fine for most things except for gaming.

Just got adsl installed today, still got my Virgin line running too, would be very interested to know how you setup both to run on the same computer/network.

Ultimate levels of sadness getting your own telephone line and broadband connection JUST for online gaming.

Meh...After living in places where one or two people on the network absolutely mauled it I don't think it's sad at all. If you've got people abusing the internet it's like having a connection that is constantly slower than dial-up.

And that's for everyting - browsing, trying to download anything (even small files can take hours), gaming, accessing your bank...You may as well not have the internet.

I managed to sort it out with my housemates but if you're living with less reasonable people getting your own line is the only thing you can do.

not without a lot of trouble + expensive hardware to split, personaly i would say nearly impossible to do as a homeuser.
