2 Quick questions.

1. I've just added a 2nd monitor and didn't have a long enough HDMI cable for one of them, so one is using HDMII, the other DVI. Is there any disadvantage to doing this? Seems to be working OK, but am I better off with 2 HDMI connections?

2. Thinking of a small step up in GFX power, Getting by on a HD5770 at the minute but considering an upgrade if I can get a decent upgrade for £50.

Spec of my aging machine is:

Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
Gigabyte GA-965p-ds3
4GB RAM (not even sure anymore what it's running exactly! :o )

There's a 6950/70 on the MM for £45. Think anything higher might be a problem for the cpu, but I'm not sure. You could probably sell your card for £20 so a nice cheap upgrade.

As the others have said, if you're not looking at carrying audio or going higher than 1920x1200, there's no practical difference between DVI and HDMI, so run whatever works best for your collections and cabling.

A 5770 is half a 5870, and a 6950 is slightly quicker again, so that's the area I'd be looking for £50. Anything newer and you're going to need to sacrifice performance for features/efficiency/higher model number, unless you get very lucky and find a bargain. Anandtech bench should give a good idea of how much of an increase any potential purchase will be.
