2 monitor setup question

I'm probably gonna explain this rubbish, but bear with me... :p

At work, I use 2 monitor, a 15" and a 17". The ideal world would say that I should use 2 17" but this is irrelevant at the moment.

I'm thinking of buying the new VX2235 22" Viewsonic and at present I have a Viewsonic 912 19".

The resolution of the 912 is set to 1280x1024 and the max resolution of the 2235 is 1680x1050.

On my works monitors, because the resolutions are different, if I move my mouse from the 15" to the 17" it goes across no probs, but moving from the 17" to the 15" I have to ensure that the pointer is less than the maximum resolution of the 15" monitor otherwise it just 'sticks' to the monitor side.

So...

If I purchased the VX2235, whilst I appreciate there's a difference of 26 pixels vertically, can I set the resolution of the VX2235 to be x-amount by 1024?

Or would it simply be a case of the 26pixels are soooo insignificant that I'm being too picky?

umm, no.
I've never seen a difference in resolutions causing this problem....

anyone else ?

edit: it's not a graphics card quirk is it ?
I've just tried a couple of resolutions on my Nvidia, but can't replicate your problem.

My dad's setup uses a widescreen 17" with a normal aspect 17" and I have seen the same problem - the mouse has to be within the range of the lower res for it to pass smoothly back.

What OP wants is to set the res of the monitor slightly less so that this problem will not be present on his new setup.

In answer to that, I dont have any idea... sorry.

At 26 pixels I doubt you'd really notice but you will like the widescreen for PC use :)

In answer to you question I think you will be able to set the widescreen monitor to 1280*1024 but unless it has 1:1 pixel mapping it will stretch the image which really negates the purpose tbh.
 
I use a 1280*1024 monitor and a 1680*1050 monitor currently. As long as the mouse is not on the taskbar there are no issues, it's fine and I never notice it.

I'm interested in doing the same thing, I wanted to know what they look like next to each other :)

Also if you haven't there is no problem using different res on different screens :p

I used to use a 17" and a 15", all I did was in the display properties move the 15" so the top was inline with the 17" and that way it would only stick at the bottom - just needed to remember to move the mouse higher up the monitor.

Yeah, although TBH, don't use the 19" one now. Didn't have any issues really, aesthetically there's a difference but practically the missing 20-odd pixels wasn't an issue at all.
