2 monitors on 2 AMD cards, Please help!

Hi guys. I got myself a 7950 the other day and as a hold out until I get a HDMI lead for my second monitor I re-installed my old 3870 and ran the second monitor from that. However I suffered a catastrophic error in my OS (not related) and had to totally re-install Windows 7. Once done I can't get the second monitor up and running, can't seem to have both device drivers working at the same time, now I know the monitor should work as I have seen it working in boot apps, so whats stopping it working in the OS?

Can't detect the second display but the card is showing in device manager.

Is there something stupidly simple I'm missing?

Have you been into ati control center to add the second monitor ?

I get nothing from detect displays. Same result in OS.

Did you leave in the 3870 when you reinstalled windows?

Uninstall the 3870 through device manger>shut down>remove 3870>boot>shutdown>install gpu but leave the 2nd display unplugged, wait for windows to install device>restart>plug in 2nd display.

That eventually worked, had to do it 2 1/2 half times, first time no joy, second time from utter scratch removing both drivers, had to then over-right the windows chosen 3870 drivers with the proper catalyst drivers.

Oh god if only I could have had two screens when I was fixing my sandboxes and syslinks today, would have saved me hours. Thankyou again man
