Hi dudes,

Looking for some opinions on monitors.

I would like to get 2 new 24" monitors to compliment my Dell 2407wfp (Rev A03) for an eyefinity setup. Im running an ATI 5870 and i7 920 @ 3.4ghz, so my system SHOULD handle gaming at hi resolutions reasonably well.

My only concern is that to get two monitors within my budget (£300 - £400) is that I would have to get monitors with a max res of 1080, whereas the Dell I already have goes up to 1900 x 1200....will this be an issue whilst gaming or how can i overcome that?

Also any monitor recommendations from first hand use will be appreciated!

Cheers!

or should i sell the Dell 24" and invest in a single larger monitor i.e Dell U2711 or get a 32" lcd tv?

Is buying second hand out of the question? Your budget should get another 2407 and a 2408(for its Display port which you need for Eyefinity). No Single monitor however big is going to give you anywhere near the number of pixels as Eyefinity will give you.

Hi dudes,
My only concern is that to get two monitors within my budget (£300 - £400) is that I would have to get monitors with a max res of 1080.

Providing the new monitors have the same pitch size (0.27) as your Dell, lining up the images on the other screens shoudn't be an issue. All you have to do is turn off scaling on the 2407 (wide mode: 1:1 in the menu) so that the 1920x1080 image isn't stretched (giving you a small black bar top and bottom). This will then give you the same height image as the other monitors.

Another solution would be to sell the 2407 and buy 3 x U2311s (£100 cheaper than the U2711)

Hope this helps...

Hi there,

Sorry to steal your thread. I'm set to order another 2 monitors on Friday to go with my crossfired 5870's.

I would be ordering another 2x Dell SP2309W, the questions I have is regaurding running eyefinity is with the display port. These monitors have DVI, VGA and HDMI, no display port. I was under the impression that I will need to purchase an adapter for this to work ? I'm not very happy about this as this little experiment is gonna cost around 500.00 for the two monitors and desk to fit them on and now a adapter cable at a stupid price !

I have noticed on OCUK that they sell :

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-048-OK

Am I right in thinking this would do that job or am I getting this wrong ? They seem v cheap compared to the Dell 69.00 display port convertor.

Also dose anyone with eyefinity know how well it would run games such as BFBC2 on an eyefinity setup, would I need to run games on medium settings ect ?

Thanks,

Kev

If you have anything wrong with your 2407s, such as a dead pixel or something, dell should replace them with a more up to date model (such as a 2408) that has display port.

I've done this my self down to a dead pixel, as they have a 0 dead pixel guarantee.
