Hey,

I have just reinstalled Windows 7 onto my new SSD and ahve got two issues that are annoying me which I hope you knowledgeable peeps can help me sort out.

1.) I want to place a shortcut to a specific folder on the windows 7 taskbar as a pinned item. To do this i went to that folder, right-clicked and choose "Create Shortcut" and then dragged this onto the taskbar where it showed up fine... However, when i click it to open the shortcut, it ALWAYS goes to Libraries and not the folder i specified. How can I fix this?

2.) I have just installed iTunes and pinned the iTunes desktop shortcut to my taskbar. When i click the shortcut, it opens another icon on the taskbar right next to the pinned item. So when iTunes is running I see 2 icons on it. How can this be solved?

Thanks

Neil

not sure about q1 but for q2 just delete the itunes shortcut you've created. now start itunes and then pin the taskbar item while it's running.

Remove the shortcuts you added.

To pin to the taskbar do this:
- Go to start, programs, etc.
- Right click on the one you want, and say "pin to taskbar".

See how that works out for you.

@marc2003 - That worked perfectly thanks.

Now for pinning a shortcut to a specific folder and getting to actually go to that folder when clicked! - I managed to do this on my old install but just forgotten how to do it!

1. Make a folder C:\Shortcuts
2. Put some shortcuts in it
3. Right click on the taskbar and say "new toolbar", select your folder

Customise
a. Right click taskbar and Lock/Unlock to reposition your shortcuts toolbar
b. Right click your shortcuts toolbar and Hide Title

Hmm, I have just tried that method and yes it does work but I don;t like it. Mainly because I had it working as a normal pinned icon on my previous install and it went to the correct folder and I just want to get it like that again.

If you do that you end up with a shortcut to explorer.exe which by default goes, as you've found, to Libraries.

What you need to do is right click on the icon, then right click again on the Windows Explorer option and pick properties. In the Shortcut dialogue that pops up append the path you want to open to the explorer.exe path in the Target box.

It's worth noting though that you can only have a single icon for Explorer on the taskbar so you can't have a shortcut to any other paths on there.
