Hi,

Have two completely different computers here.

1 license is a Fujitsu-Siemens OEM key for XP Professional.

The other license is an Emachines OEM key for XP Home.

Neither work. Both come up with "Your product key is not valid for this installation" during setup. WTF is this? Do I need some kind of OEM disc?

Cheers

I was thinking the same, but have managed to fix! All I had to do was retrieve the OEMBIOS files used on the old install, delete the registry key to make it ask for my registration key again, then it accepted it! :D

Round 2: Getting XP Pro to do it. It won't let me install without the key like Home did. Urk.

Cheers :)

Best to remaster a new Windows disk for each system, and as mentioned add the OEMBIOS files to i386 directory. Will also need to edit the Setupp file to alter Pid line to match manufacturer of PC.

Can't remember when I did this if still needed to enter product key during installation.

My Digital Life forum has the information and tools to do it all.

The problem with the Pro one was that, even with the OEMBIOS files added to the disc, it still wouldn't accept it. Had to enter my own key, then change the OEMBIOS files, then run the Windows Key Changer Tool (you know, the one they offer to people they think are pirates to get a legit copy, it wouldn't let me do it the usual way), then repeat the last two steps 'cause it didn't work for some reason, then sorted.

It was an XPSP3 Pro disc, I have quite a few nLited installs round here. Still wouldn't let me use without the key for some reason.

Ah well, all sorted now, contacted MS and they told me it's legal so I'm good to go :)
