Hi

I have a nVidia 6200 in my Media PC. alls fine, but its a noisy bugger. the 40mm fan on the card whines and its really annoying. Ive slowed the fan down with my finger, and at about half the speed its still shifting a lot of air but is almost silent.

Is there any way to adjust the speed of a 2-pin fan? does the Zalman fanmate 2 support controlling 2 pin fans?

Cheers

The connector's probably far too small to connect to a FanMate.

You could wire in a 5v or 7v resistor if you could be bothered.

from what i can remember the connector is like the standard 3 pin ones for system fans, and not the smaller 2 pin used for things like case lights and buttons.

I'm not familiar with the graphics card but if the connector is the same as that on a normal 3-pin fan then it should be fine. I'm guessing that by two pin you mean it only uses 2 of the 3 connections on the plug.

The third wire on other fans is just so the system can tell how fast it is spinning, and the fanmate wont do anything with it. All it does is control the voltage that goes out between the 2 other wires.

PK!

from what i remember it is just like the standard mobo ones, but shorter as it only has 2 pins not 3. ill give the fanmate a try, see if it works and let you know.

Cheers

If its not the same width then it might not fit in the plug properly, but if you do try it make sure the positive and negative wires are matched up properly.

The other option is to replace the whole fan assembly, which isnt that much more expensive. I changed the stock fan on my 18 month old x800 to a much quiter zalman cooler (spec) a few months ago and its giving me better cooling too.

PK!
