ok i have 2 problems with my dads pc.
first:
when we did a fresh install of xp some reason there was 2 os's put onto the hard drive. only one actually is a full install, the other is like the very beginning stages, and if selected asks for the installtion disc. this wouldn't be so bad but annoyingly when you start the pc it gives you the choice of either os to boot from and takes 30 seconds to count down and default to the correct os. is there any way i can delete the other os safely to ensure the files of the working os are 100% not going to be messed up?
second problem:
for some odd reason the pc is freezing when shutting down on the "windows is shutting down" screen. I have checked google but nothing is helping. I have checked in safe mode and it shuts down fine, but in normal it doesn't. i have tried using both the account with admin priviledges and the ones without, both have the shut down problem.
whats odd is that once it is shutting down it's making a load of activity noise for the hard drive, but then all of a sudden the hard drive activity stops and it goes very quiet just the fans making a noise and it's freezes, i can't turn it off by holding in the button on the front of the pc, meaning the only way to switch it off is from the wall.
any suggestions what could do this? i have tried disabling one process at a time but nothing so far is making a difference.
also i tried shutting down before a user logs in so it happens only once a user logs in.
