A few days ago I bought my first PS3, just a pre-owned 40gbfrom Gamestation. When I got it back home it gave me problems from the start, I had to reboot it 3 times before I could get to the main menu, a firmware update fixed, hooray. But then I started playing GT5 and it started crashing allover again.

So back to the store I go this morning and exchange both the game and PS3 for a new copy of the game and a console the bloke claims is refurbished from Sony. Thinking my problems are now sorted I update my new console to the 3.70 version and download the 600mb GT5 update, after 5 minutes of playing I decide to sign in to my PSN account which means going back to the dashboard (Why?). After doing this the console now can't read my damn discs! It's just acting like the drive is empty, tried 3 games and all are the same.

So what would you do? Take it back to the store and get yet another console which may not work? Tbh this whole thing has put my off owning the PS3, originally bought my first one 4 days ago and haven't played a game properly yet.

lol your probably buying duff pre-owned ones, i have had mine since launch, i cant rememeber how many years old it is now, but zero problems, the newer models are significantly more reliable too.

i have the 60GB one which has ps2 backwards compatibility and 4 usb ports as well as memory card hub built in

I had the same problem with a free ps3 with a a phone contract, first one wouldnt start, second one stopped working, got third time lucky tho :)

How much did you pay for it?

There has been a price drop on the PS3 now so I'd buy a new one if you can. It sounds like you're buying some untested trade ins. The older consoles have started dying and a lot of people have traded in on first signs of failure.

Gamestation send all units of to be tested or repaired by there own people then come back as refurbished/pre owned this is why i wouldn't ever touch any of there hardware I didn't know this until I was speaking to a mate whos friend works in one of them doing the testing/repairs he said they get so many faulty 360 in do xclamp repair then do system update try a disc if it works it shipped back to stores.

The store when it takes them in for will try a disc orig and backup some will plug in network cable to check if it's banned but this is rare unless there is a ban wave going on.

I had 4 faulty Xbox elites from game in a row. 3 were hardware faults one was damaged. I spoke to a manager to complain and he agreed to refund me £50 of my £99 paid and replace the console with a brand new 250gb model. Speak to the customer service line and complain about time wasted and you are fed up with being sold faulty items..

I find Gamestation to be a really tacky store, the one in town here always smells like cheesy feet, i would never trust a store that smells of cheesy feet.

Seriously buddy you've gotta be incredible unlucky to get 2 broken ps3 as there actually very reliable, as for signing into psn you can do that in game
